ONS Launches Leadership Competencies!
In 2012, a project team of ONS members conducted an extensive review of healthcare and business literature and drafted the Oncology Nursing Society Leadership Competencies. These competencies have been created to define the role of the oncology nurse leader. Whether working at the bedside, as a manager, or a member of a national or international board of directors, the oncology nurse is viewed as a leader within their practice. These competencies will provide a means for self assessment and a foundation for future leadership education.
The ONS Leadership Competencies were designed to reflect the needs of oncology nurses, but can transcend practice settings, specialties, disciplines, and can be used universally within employment and volunteer roles to increase and measure leadership competency in any environment.
